Blueprints Weapon Customization

Blueprints are unique weapon variants that add color and variety to your Modern Warfare arsenal. Each Blueprint is based on a specific weapon but has a distinctive name and appearance, plus a curated set of attachments. For instance, the Mother of Pearl is a variant of the FN Scar 17 Assault Rifle that comes with a Tac Laser, a Scout Combat Optic, a FORGE TAC 17.2” LB Barrel, and an Operator Foregrip. Its sleek black design, intricate ornamentation, and a Korean rose sticker help set it apart further. Because Blueprint guns can start out with weapon types and attachments that you have not yet unlocked, they can give you a serious leg-up in your early progression. Beginners, in particular, might appreciate the pre-set starting loadouts, though even seasoned players may have a wholly excusable weakness for those weapons’ unique and cool appearances.
How to get blueprints
- You can obtain Blueprints from a variety of sources. The simplest way is to buy premium editions of Modern Warfare or Warzone or Bundles that include Blueprints from the in-game store. However, those Bundles can command a high price in CoD points, which in turn must be bought with real money or earned by grinding Battle Pass tiers in other series installments. Furthermore, not all Blueprints come in Bundles. Others unlock as you play through the advance in Officer Rank or participate in limited-time events. The Hush Shotgun is one such Officer Rank-tied Blueprint.
- Still, another method is to carry out special tasks in the game. To do that, you will need to accept the task from the Missions tab in the Barracks, accessed through the multiplayer menu. Only one mission may be active at a time and their requirements can be rather steep. For example, to obtain the Ruby Rampage SMG, you would need to score dozens of kills using a wide range of optics.
- Alternately, after completing one of the regular contracts in Warzone, there is a small chance of getting a contraband contract. This task requires you to retrieve a briefcase from somewhere on the map and bring it to a designated location. It is harder than it sounds, as you would need to fight your way through the chaotic battle royale. You may be able to take the briefcase off a killed player’s corpse and still complete the objective, but you would not know if someone is carrying a contraband briefcase until they die. Still, it is the only way to get your hands on certain Blueprints, such as the Karbonite Marksman Rifle.
Once you have a Blueprint you want to use, go to the Loadout menu and select its base weapon. Press the Armory button to review the Blueprint options you currently have. From that tab, you can swap any of those Blueprints into your current loadout. Note that you are not limited to the Blueprint weapon’s initial attachments. You can swap them out for other attachments you have already unlocked through the Gunsmith table. Likewise, it is possible to customize their appearance further through standard camos, reticles for their sights, or even cosmetic elements from other available Blueprints.
Conclusion
It’s worth noting that Blueprint weapons sometimes suffer from a glitch. While they are supposed to help you level the weapons they are based on and potentially unlock other modifications for them, some players have noticed that the game does not register any progress achieved with those unique items. Others report that unlocking the base weapons normally removes the glitch, making it possible to use the Blueprint version for leveling up normally past that point. Not everyone and not every Blueprint seems to have this issue, however. Even if the glitch affects you, a Blueprint gun may be worth it because of its dazzling battlefield presence.
