How To Unlock The Secret Weapons

How To Unlock The Secret Weapons

Although Modern Warfare has not received any official content updates in months, many of its fans continue to expect future releases. One of the main arguments in favor of this hope is that some players have found secret weapons while playing the shooter. Those guns have only started showing up in recent weeks. None of them have been officially released or acknowledged after their discovery, but they seem to be connected to the long-anticipated Season 7.

This would not be the first time that some weapons appeared before their season. It might be an oversight or a tease on the developers’ part. Whatever the case, those guns are certainly distinctive and quite powerful. Although access to them can be a little spotty due to possible glitches, it is worth the time to unlock if you are a regular player.

Secret Weapons Unlock

There are three weapons in all, each based on a real-world firearm, some of which have appeared in the series before. As with many other weapons in the game, unlocking those secret guns requires completing special combat challenges over the course of several matches:

WeaponReal Life PrototypeCategoryChallenge
CX-9CZ Scorpion Evo 3Submachine GunsUsing a Submachine Gun, get two longshot kills in five different matches
SykovMakarovHandgunsUsing a Handgun, get four kills in five different matches
RAAL MGSig Sauer MG 338Light Machine GunsUsing a Light Machine Gun with a Scout Optic, get five kills in seven different matches

Note that it is equally possible to progress through those challenges in Modern Warfare’s standard Multiplayer mode and in Warzone. If you go with the latter, you should find it easier to progress in Plunder due to its easy revivals. However, smaller maps in the main game are a more reliable option. While there have been complaints about the challenges not working, in at least some cases it turned out that the progress simply wasn’t visible in the main menu. The Weapon Station in Survival Mode may be a better option for tracking progress.

CX-9

CX-9 should be familiar to long-time fans, but even newcomers to the series will surely enjoy its combination of a brisk rate of fire and stability. Its unlock goal is a bit tricky, as SMGs are not known for long-range accuracy. Kills would need to be made at a distance of 30 yards or more to count. The MP7 may be your best bet as a weapon since it does not suffer from as much recoil or damage drop-off as most other weapons in its category. As for the modes, Ground War games may be more useful in this case, since a patient and observant Operator will surely find opportunities to make appropriate kills during those larger engagements.

Sykov

This semi-automatic pistol is notable because of its ability to turn into the only full-auto handgun in the shooter with the Sorokin 140mm Auto attachment. The Akimbo dual-wield perk can make the Sykov deadlier still – some players have already complained that this build might blow all other pistols out of the water. Even without those improvements, the classic Russian pistol has an impressive firing rate that is only partly offset by lower damage. It has a definite niche in that it allows you to swiftly finish off wounded enemies at close range. Its challenge is even more well-suited for smaller maps like Shipment than usual, as completing it requires getting close to your enemies without being picked off first.

RAAL LMG

Though it only showed up weeks after the other two secret weapons, this light machine gun has already impressed players with its stopping power. Though slow-firing, the RAAL boasts very respectable stability and damage, making it ideal for long-range skirmishing. Camping on maps like Shoot House may be the most efficient way to unlock it. Note that you do not have to aim down sights for your kills to count towards the challenge – just having a Scout Optic (Scout Combat, VLK 3.0x, or Cronen C480) attached would be enough. That said, you would usually want the advantage anyway due to most LMGs’ high spread. It may also be a good opportunity to work on unlocking ACOG reticles.

Where to use

As of this writing, you cannot add those weapons to your loadouts. After unlocking them, your main chance to use them would be in the co-op Survival Mode, where you can buy those or other unlocked weapons at the Weapon Station. However, you may also chance upon full-attachment blueprint versions of the weapons by equipping the Weapon Drop field upgrade and smashing random airdrop containers in other modes, including Battle Royale. While the odds of getting those specific guns that way are long, you might still get lucky. They would definitely be a nasty surprise to spring on opponents who are prepared for more commonplace firearms!

Conclusion

Whether Season 7 is really coming or not, those guns are an intriguing part of the game. If an official release arrives, they would presumably become more widely available in all modes in the future. That would make it worth your while to train with them and raise weapon levels early, especially if they remain roughly as powerful as they appear to be now. Otherwise, they are still a neat easter egg that can be a major combat advantage if you can get your hands on them.
