The Hawkmoon Random Roll Quest

When Hawkmoon was added to Destiny 2 on December 8, much of the attention focused on its Transformative perk. It promised that future versions of the weapon will come with random perks, but no information was given on when or how those versions will become available. Over a month later, the question has been answered with the implementation of a new Exotic quest as part of Tuesday’s weekly reset.

Assuming you already have the hand cannon’s original curated drop, you will be able to receive this quest from Crow at Thieves’ Landing in the Tangled Shore. His instructions will guide you to Trostland in the European Dead Zone, where you will be able to unlock a hidden passage by shooting it with Hawkmoon. After that, you will need to overcome high-level enemies and navigate difficult platforming sections. The quest is very challenging, potentially requiring coaching or high-Power gear obtained through boosting for you to get through it alone. That said, finishing this quest solo would yield a richly deserved Triumph.

Rewards

Aside from that, the main rewards for quest completion are two versions of Hawkmoon with random perks. The quest can be completed once per week for each character, meaning the maximum number of weekly rolls for your account would be six. Another prize is the Hawkmoon’s Catalyst, which requires you to use the gun to score 700 kills. Completing this challenge will turn your favorite iteration of the hand cannon into a Masterwork and give it the Hunter’s Trance perk, which provides multiple stat bonuses based on the number of active Paracausal Charges, as well as a static magazine expansion.

Hawkmoon’s status as the first Exotic weapon with partly randomized perks makes it fascinating to see how it will hold up over the long run. Despite some concerns around the gun’s original release time about it being hampered by an effectively missing perk, most fans have since come to agree that the hand cannon performs splendidly in both PvE and PvP. Since the quest’s launch, the community has already discovered several potential God Rolls. The rangefinder is currently the most popular possible trait due to its effective distance boost, which has great synergy with the Catalyst. Others swear by Opening Shot or Killing Wind. A rich selection of Grips and Barrels may help Hawkmoon’s handling and stability issues.

Overall, it seems like the new and improved versions of Hawkmoon will see plenty of use in all types of content!
