Valorant is a class-based FPS that can offer some unique and interesting mechanics. No matter your experience in various games, there are some new things you will have to master in the game. Considering all these specifics it might be a bit hard to do well in Valorant from the beginning so here are some things that you have to know to get better results and rise in ranks.

Headshots

Generally, if you really are planning on achieving a win you have to try to manage to get as many kills as it is possible which will require a lot of headshots as they make a real difference. This task is far from easy and if you think you can just aim to the right location hoping for the best outcome, you are wrong. Like in any other FPS, headshots here result in significant bonus damage than any other shot to the body. The main difference here from some other games comes from the fact that you rarely have an option of running away. So in such circumstances, if other circumstances are equal, the player who manages to deal the headshot faster is most likely to come out as a winner. But you should not start close combat by just aiming for the head of your opponent. Due to the very high recoil, your team needs to learn how to use this aspect to your own benefit. If you are using some automatic gun, you need to make sure that your fifth shot will go for the head, this way you will both deal good damage till the headshot and get the most possible advantage of the recoil. So just like that, you would better learn how to act with each weapon to get maximum efficiency.

Single shots

Another strategy is the smart use of single shots, though it is not as universal. Generally, it fails against players that have mastered the specifics of recoil, so they basically can score more in the time you make your shot. But this is the technique for some much longer-ranged fights where it is not possible to use recoil as an advantage.

Movement

Next comes the movement. The default sprinting can not help you in any fight, so if you are not sure if you can meet an enemy soon or not, stick to the safer option - walk. Running can only negatively affect your aiming and causes a lot of unneeded attention to your disposition. Minimizing the caused noise is supposed to be your aim, this way you will have another opportunity to get an upper hand. Of course, if you can use crouching to benefit the situation - do exactly that. It is a good way to increase the control of shots, but you also become much more vulnerable to the incoming damage. In some situations your opponents can expect you to act this way, especially if you are trying to trap them, so they can use that knowledge to aim better. While you can use crouching, do not forget that the enemy team can do that as well, so try to adapt to the situation to be able to get an increase in ranking.

Agents

All playable heroes can be divided into 4 main types based on the role in the team. In addition to that, each hero has a set of unique abilities which leads to a diversity of playstyles even within one type. No matter your general preferences you need to be capable of bringing the best out of the agent you play, so the progress on the agents’ contracts can help you as well.

Duelists

If you prefer the role of DPS, in this game your main characters will be Duelists, as they mainly focus on dealing significant damage. You will have to be in the frontlines of each fight and ready to face any opponents. That is why if you are not confident in your aiming skills, these characters will not work for you.

Initiators

Another similar case is with Initiators that are also mainly focused on offense, but they mostly do not deal with the fight head-on. Their main aim is clear usage of flanks and finding and providing new lines of attack. They can provide your squad with stans, reveals of enemy positions, and many other things that serve as a great help in battle.

Sentinels

Now let's get to the defensive type, these are Sentinels with the main aim of providing aid for the DPS. In this case, you can provide various support from healing to various abilities to disrupt the enemy attack. These characters will have to be close to the main fight but on a relatively safer distance to be able to make use of the abilities.

Controllers

The last type is a bit more complex. Controllers need to make sure the main fight the right way by setting defenses and moving around, while rarely participating directly. Your main aim is not to get kills but the control the enemy forces to your advantage.

Teamwork

The teamwork begins in the phase of buying. If you are having problems with money, you need to coordinate them so the whole team can benefit from it. In other situations, you also need to make sure everyone has shields and abilities upgraded. As the win directly depends on the strength of each teammate, all the resources need to be separated in that way so each can feel confident. Saving up for the latter is also necessary so the right balancing and communication is a must, especially in high risks games, like placement matches.

On the whole different teams usually deal with this problem in different ways, but the main strategy consists of splitting everything into partial buys, no buys, and full buys. In the last case, everyone buys the maximum, in the second option is the opposite decision, and in the first case, your team needs to balance the minimum in order to save some money for later.
